Choosing a tide station around Charleston and the Lowcountry
Charleston Harbor connects to rivers, creeks, marshes, and beaches, but those locations do not all turn together. A useful tide plan begins with the station whose water route most closely matches the place you intend to fish.
Harbor, river, and creek stations answer different questions
Charleston Customhouse Wharf describes the central harbor, while stations farther up the Ashley River or inside an outlying creek describe different parts of the tidal system. Choose by connected waterway and position within the estuary, not by city name alone.
Read the prediction-type label
A reference station calculates predictions directly from local harmonic constants. A subordinate station applies NOAA-published time and height offsets to a named reference station. CoastCue states that relationship on each station page because the method helps explain why two nearby tables may not match.
Marsh water does not follow one harbor clock
Shallow creeks, broad marshes, river flow, and restricted entrances can delay or reshape local water movement. A published high or low is a predicted water-level turning point at the station. It does not guarantee the same timing, depth, or current at an unmonitored landing or fishing bank.

Wind, pressure, rain, and river discharge can move observed water away from the astronomical prediction.
