CoastCue policies

Privacy

Effective August 5, 2026

CoastCue is designed to be useful without requiring an account. The Android app does not include advertising, general product-behavior analytics, or cloud synchronization of saved stations and alert preferences. It uses RevenueCat for purchase, entitlement, restore, and subscription analytics, Sentry for crash diagnostics, and Google Maps for the station map as described below. This website does not use analytics or advertising trackers.

Interest-list information

If you joined the Android launch list or join the current iOS interest list, CoastCue stores the email address you provide and the date you joined in a Cloudflare-hosted database. We use it only for the availability updates you requested and important CoastCue updates. We do not sell or rent the list. You may ask us to remove your address through the support page.

Support requests

If you contact support, we store your email address, the topic you choose, your message, and the submission date so we can review and respond. Do not include passwords, payment details, or sensitive personal information.

Information stored by the Android app

This information is stored on your device. CoastCue does not provide an account or cloud synchronization at launch.

Location

CoastCue requests foreground location only when you choose a nearby-station feature such as Near Me. Precise location is used to find nearby coastal stations and show your map position. Manual search and map browsing remain available. CoastCue does not use background location tracking, retain precise location as CoastCue account data, sell it, or use it for advertising. Google Maps may process approximate or precise location when the station map or your map position is used.

Official data and maps

The app makes network requests to NOAA CO-OPS for tide, water, and current information; the National Weather Service for weather, wave forecasts, and coastal alerts; and the National Data Buoy Center for active buoy catalogs and observed wave information. Google Maps supplies the station map. The Maps SDK may process approximate or precise location, map interactions such as panning and zooming, diagnostics and crash metrics, IP address, device and request metadata, and a Maps-specific pseudonymous identifier to provide and improve map functionality. NOAA, NWS, NDBC, Google Maps, and other providers involved in delivering these requests may receive standard device and network metadata under their own privacy practices.

Purchases and CoastCue Pro

Google Play processes CoastCue Pro annual subscriptions and one-time lifetime purchases. RevenueCat processes product identifiers, purchase history, subscription and transaction status, entitlement status, and an anonymous application user identifier for app functionality and purchase analytics needed to grant, manage, and restore Pro access. Approved closed testers may redeem a separate one-time Google Play code for a non-consumable product that grants permanent Pro access to that Play account. CoastCue does not require a CoastCue account and does not send your name or email address to RevenueCat. Google Play and RevenueCat may receive standard device and network metadata under their own policies.

Crash diagnostics

When the installed build includes crash reporting, CoastCue sends crash reports and automatic session-health information to Sentry. Reports may include stack traces, app version, operating-system and device context, and recent non-network app interactions recorded as technical breadcrumbs to reproduce a failure. CoastCue disables performance tracing and session replay, does not send default personally identifiable information, drops network breadcrumbs, and does not attach saved stations, precise location, notification preferences, names, or email addresses as custom crash context.

Notifications

Fishing-window, tide-event, and reference alerts are optional CoastCue Pro features scheduled locally on your device from downloaded outlook and tide data. CoastCue does not send a push token or these preferences to a CoastCue server. NWS coastal alerts shown in the app are informational and do not replace official emergency notifications.

Data retention and deletion

We keep launch-list entries until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Support requests are retained only as long as reasonably needed to handle the request and maintain basic service records. Use the support form to request access, correction, or deletion of information CoastCue controls. Purchase records held by Google Play or RevenueCat and diagnostics held by Sentry are handled under those providers' policies.

Children

CoastCue is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes

We will update this page before adding advertising, CoastCue accounts, cloud sync, general product-use analytics beyond the purchase and entitlement processing described above, remote push notifications, or another materially different data practice.
